BurdaForward celebrates hybrid & decentralized

on 22 September 2021
by Sara Kiesler

Corona-compliant celebration is possible! If you want to maintain togetherness in pandemic times, creativity is called for. After about 18 months of almost exclusively virtual encounters at BurdaForward, we came together again for a unique summer party - not only online, but also live at seven different event locations.

2 countries, 4 cities, 7 restaurants

During the preparation phase, it quickly became clear that there is no such thing as one-size-fits-all, because the needs and concerns in the current situation are highly individual. So in order to get a joint summer party off the ground, we had to offer different approaches to participation.

So we celebrated not only hybrid but also decentralized. You could join us from your own four walls via an online platform, or you could participate live in one of seven different restaurants - four of them at our main location in Munich and one each in Hamburg, Cologne and Bari, Italy. The prerequisite for live participation was proof of one of the 3 G's: Vaccinated, Recovered, Tested.

Eine virtuelle Zugreise

The unifying element and at the same time the motto of our summer party was a joint train journey, which was transmitted from a live studio to all locations and the online platform. There, we created our virtual Interactive City Express, which traveled at high speed from Germany to Italy and back again, stopping over and over again à la Eurovision Song Contest to switch live to the colleagues. Highlights of the one-hour program included surprise guests such as Luca Toni, Dieter Bohlen and Thomas Gottschalk alias Matze Knop, as well as a donation to the Tribute to Bambi Foundation for educational institutions in the flood area.

Telling stories with a loving eye for detail - that's something I particularly enjoy. At BurdaForward, I mostly do that around our working world. I spend my free time on horseback, on the SUP or on skis. Anything in nature! Preferably in the beautiful Bavarian Alps and my beloved home, the Black Forest.
