by Johanna Schallehn
FOCUS Online hires Ulrich Reitz as chief correspondent for its Berlin bureau as of 1 February 2021. Reitz will be responsible for political reporting from the capital.

The former editor-in-chief of FOCUS magazine succeeds Margarete van Ackeren. The former chief correspondent of FOCUS Online moves to the State Chancellery in Düsseldorf and becomes spokesperson for the Minister for Federal and European Affairs and International Affairs.
I am pleased that we can welcome Ulrich Reitz to our ranks as one of Germany's best political understanders. He will strengthen and sharpen the political profile of our site in the election year and afterwards with other colleagues from Berlin. At the same time, I would like to thank Margarete van Ackeren for her excellent cooperation over the past few years, who always kept her ear very close to the decision-makers in federal politics for FOCUS Online.“
"After many years in print, I'm looking forward to digital - and the passionate FOCUS Online team," says Ulrich Reitz.
Reitz and FOCUS Online have already been working closely together for years. He appeared with his regular political column "Angespitzt", numerous commentaries and analyses on the BurdaForward portal.
In addition to FOCUS Online, Reitz will also publish for the strong BurdaForward brand network (including Chip, Bunte.de, TV Spielfilm, Finanzen100). In total, the brands of the house reach more than 40 million people per month and thus around two thirds of the internet users in Germany (AGOF).
Ulrich Reitz worked as a correspondent at Die Welt and was on the launch team of FOCUS, which he led as editor-in-chief from 2014 to 2016. In total, he was editor-in-chief of the two largest German regional newspapers "WAZ" and "Rheinische Post" for 17 years.
