Philipp Brunner to leave BurdaForward
BurdaForward COO Philipp Brunner (46) has decided to leave the company on June 30, 2024. As CEO of CHIP, Brunner has been part of the management team of the Burda subsidiary since 2018 and in this role, has been responsible for the CHIP Group's online and print business.
License for CHIP and CHIP FOTO-VIDEO magazines goes to Five Monkeys Media
The publishing house BurdaForward is awarding the license for two print magazines of the CHIP brand to the newly founded media house Five Monkeys Media. Both CHIP magazine and CHIP FOTO-VIDEO magazine will be published by the new licensee from April 1, 2024. All digital offerings of the CHIP brand will remain within BurdaForward GmbH, which includes CHIP.de as well as numerous well-known digital portals such as FOCUS online, BUNTE.de and TVSpielfilm PLUS.
CHIP network test 2023: 5G shows effect
Telekom, Vodafone or O2 - who is ahead in terms of network quality? To find out how network coverage in Germany is doing, measurement technicians once again traveled all over the country for CHIP. As part of the major network test, the team from partner NET CHECK covered more than 11,000 kilometers on foot, by car and by train and took measurements. One of the three networks tested provided a special surprise.
High speed without compromises
CHIP and NetCheck put the performance of German Internet providers under the microscope for a new edition of the network test. Whether the providers really deliver what they promise was examined for the first time at national level directly on the home connection of more than 500 Internet users.
Excellent protection: cell phone insurance in a CHIP test
92 percent of all smartphone users have already had to deal with damage to their device, according to a study by the digital association Bitkom. However, whether it is worthwhile to take out cell phone insurance depends largely on the scope of services and the costs. Estate agent check: CHIP puts estate agents under the microscope

There is a lot of uncertainty about the risk of infection from Covid19. With the Covid19 risk calculator (CRR for short) from the publisher BurdaForward (including FOCUS Online, CHIP.de, TV SPIELFILM and BUNTE.de), users can now individually calculate how high their risk of infection is.

As a consumer expert, CHIP has for the first time evaluated the data speed of German Internet providers. It was examined whether the providers actually deliver the data rates promised in advertising and product information sheets to the user. The test method is based thereby on genuine data of consumers, who were asked in the context of the CHIP Speedtests. Thus the most reliable provider could be determined.

Millions of users help testing
In CHIP's tenth mobile network test, 2.6 billion user data were included for the first time in order to assess network quality and coverage. The experts covered more than 10,000 kilometers with test cars and on foot through Germany and evaluated smartphone data from more than 2 million users. The result: Deutsche Telekom is ahead by a nose - whether 4G, 3G or 2G.
The Samsung Galaxy Fold in the CHIP Endurance Test
Using custom-developed equipment, CHIP checked the world's first folding cell phone in its in-house test center. The result of the assessment was a surprise: the bendable display survives the 200,000 bending processes promised by the manufacturer Samsung without damage, but the hinge reveals audible signs of wear.

CHIP tests mowing robots
Easy to use and good for the environment: with the use of precise sensor technology, mowing robots help to create a hard-wearing and species-rich meadow. They mulch, cut and fertilize the lawn at the same time. CHIP tested seven devices ranging from 650 euros to 2,137 euros. Two candidates achieved very good results.
Flower delivery services under the microscope
A few lesser known online florists are leaving discounters and market leaders behind, according to a new market study conducted by CHIP’s test center. Blumeldeal claims first place by a narrow margin, gaining a very good grade of 1.4 on the German school grade scale (1=very good, 6=deficient). The test winner, as well as second-placed Valentins (likewise 1.4), FloraQueen (1.6) and Bloom&Wild (1.9), benefit from the freshness and longevity of their flower bouquets.
The test results are in: Switzerland has DACH’s best network
Swisscom and Sunrise are setting standards for mobile networks in Germany and Austria. This is shown by the current CHIP network test, which the experts of the technology magazine and consumer portal have again carried out with their partner NET CHECK. The cross-national comparison proves that the Swiss networks are convincing in terms of their high reliability for telephoning and surfing the mobile web.

At present, around 33,000 different species still live in Germany. Network test 2018: O2 catches up

Happy Birthday CHIP

Germany's largest hacker school
Shaping the future with digital know-how: The technology and consumer portal CHIP has taken its 40th anniversary as an opportunity to organize the largest hacker school in Germany. Around 200 students spent a day in Munich learning about the world of bits and bytes. They were guided by the Hamburg Hacker School and forty software developers from BurdaForward.
