Smart technology conquers home: CHIP distinguishes the best offerers

From coffee machines, refrigerators and vacuum cleaners to washing machines: digitalization has conquered the household. One-fifth of all Germans already attach great importance to smart technology at home - and as demand increases, so does the number of services on offer. Which of the many offerers enjoy the confidence of the German consumers, CHIP in a representative study analyzed. The prominent offerers were distinguished with the CHIP test seal.

In a two-week panel questioning with 1000 test persons from the German population (> 18 years) CHIP determined first the interest in the topic Smart Home.1 64 per cent of the asked ones were interested in principle in the topic and were asked to give information in detail over the own experience with Smart Home marks. To categories such as multi-room sound, doorbells and underfloor heating, the test persons answered three questions: Whether the manufacturer is known, how trustworthy it is, and whether a purchase decision would be positively influenced. From the answers to the last two questions the CHIP team calculated a score, which forms the basis for the placement of the individual offerers. In each category the best offerer, the most well-known offerer as well as several Top offerers with a CHIP test seal were distinguished.

The questioning showed that high confidence is brought to the quality seal in particular by Smart Home affine consumers. More than half of the asked ones indicated to orient themselves at the recommendations of the test seal and to make on this basis even purchase decisions.

Roughly half of society relies on the smart home
For the majority of society at large, the term "smart home" is nothing new at over 93 percent. Just under half of those surveyed (44.6 percent) already use smart devices themselves.

The Top marks for central Smart Home systems are Bosch on place 1 as well as Samsung SmartThings on place 2. Bosch with the highest CHIP Score from customer satisfaction and purchase decision claims both the seal of the best offerer and the honor of the most well-known mark for itself. Samsung SmartThings receives beside further marks such as Magenta SmartHome (place 3), Gigaset (place 8) and innogy (place 13) the seal of the Top offerer. This puts these brands in the top 40 percent of the category in terms of customer satisfaction.

Interior lighting and security are the most popular smart home solutions

Smart Lightning proved to be the hottest smart home technology. Philips established itself in this area early on - with success: consumer confidence helped the Philips hue brand to the first place in our ranking and the seal of the best provider. The best known brand, on the other hand, is IKEA in 10th place.

In the security ranking of smart alarm system suppliers, Bosch is once again convincing as the best and most well-known supplier at the same time. 2nd place is occupied by the top supplier ABUS.
