FOCUS online and entrepreneur Tijen Onaran are continuing their joint video podcast following the success of the first series. Under the title “MUT - Der Deutschland Talk”, top representatives of political parties, business and science talk about their plan for a sustained upturn.

The second season begins with Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Economics Minister Robert Habeck. In the next episodes, CDU party leader Friedrich Merz and FDP leader Christian Lindner will be guests.

In an interview with Onaran, Scholz referred to the joint achievements of the failed traffic light coalition, for example in overcoming the energy crisis. However, he also criticized his coalition partner: He reprimanded Economics Minister Habeck for his failed heating law. Scholz advised against an economic policy “that wants to work with regulations and regulate individual life decisions in the abstract”. Some of the things the government was criticized for were “of all things” due to Habeck. Scholz was also self-critical in the talk and admitted mistakes. “I should have ended the coalition earlier,” said the Chancellor.

Vice-Chancellor Habeck also spoke about the disintegration of the traffic lights. As early as 2023, they had “gone off the rails”. “At some point, people had developed a bluntness in their irritation,” said Habeck on the tense relationship between the coalition partners. Looking ahead, Habeck spoke out in favor of openness among the centrist parties. “The more diverse we are, the more capable we are of forming alliances.”

“New desire for a successful future”

I encourage my conversation partners to have outbursts of courage,“
says Tijen Onaran.

As well as taking a critical look at the current situation, she will be asking how Germany can finally develop a new desire for a successful future.

FOCUS online will be broadcasting news excerpts from the talks from this Thursday. The full-length 40-minute podcasts will be available to listen to and watch from next week. The Chancellor Talk will be published on January 14, followed a week later by the video podcast episode with Robert Habeck.

The great response to the first season with a total of eight million views has encouraged us to produce six more episodes,“
says Florian Festl, editor-in-chief of FOCUS online

“In an open talk with Tijen Onaran, decision-makers also reveal previously lesser-known sides of their personality. It's fun to listen to and brings new insights.”

The first season already impressed with prominent guests from politics and business such as former Siemens CEO Joe Kaeser, Green Party politician Ricarda Lang, DIW head Marcel Fratzscher and author Ahmad Mansour.

BurdaForward Communications

My journey at BurdaForward began after my bachelor's degree. Originally starting as an intern, I completed my traineeship and then joined the company as Communications Manager - a decision that turned out to be absolutely right. Corporate Communications is the central nervous system of the company and that's exactly why it's so exciting. Every day brings new challenges and I love being a part of it. When I'm not in the office, I spend my time outdoors with my dog or discovering new corners of beautiful Hamburg.
