Sports journalist Pit Gottschalk joins FOCUS online as a reporter and columnist during the European Football Championship.

The former Sport 1 editor-in-chief will be publishing for the news portal from next week until the final of the tournament. A daily column on the inner workings of the DFB squad, assignments as a reporter and a video podcast with soccer personalities are planned.

With its huge reach, FOCUS online offers the perfect stage to explain to a large audience what dynamics are going on in the team. Being close to the action will be our motivation. I am really looking forward to this task.“

Together with FOCUS online reporter Dominik Rosing, Gottschalk will closely follow the DFB team throughout the tournament.

“Pit is one of the most experienced and best-connected sports journalists in Germany,” says FOCUS online editor-in-chief Florian Festl. “The fact that we can now intensify our long-standing collaboration for the European Championships is very good news for our users.”

Pit Gottschalk was editor-in-chief of Sport-Bild and most recently of Sport1. He has been commentating on German soccer for three decades. With Fever Pit'ch, he has built up the largest independent soccer newsletter in Germany.

In addition to live coverage of its own matches, FOCUS online will be using a European Championship studio during the European Championship. Presenter Carolin Blüchel will analyze the matches in videos with internal and external experts. FOCUS online's own content will be supplemented by its partner network of regional media at the venues such as Morgenpost, Tagesspiegel, Express, Stuttgarter Zeitung and Abendzeitung.
