Yesterday, FOCUS online Earth's new climate office in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler presented itself to the public with an opening ceremony. After the flood disaster in the Ahr valley in July 2021, the FOCUS online flood reporters reported on site for several months. "Came to stay" was the motto. Now this symbolic place has become the home address for a new brand.
FOCUS online Earth will report critically and constructively on climate protection and environmentally friendly business - and inaugurated the new premises accordingly: In interviews and panel discussions with experts such as futurologist Anabel Ternès or actor, author and environmental activist Hannes Jaenicke, the focus was on questions of sustainable climate protection, but also on the development in the Ahr Valley.
We have not taken the issue of climate protection as seriously as we should have. A whole generation has neglected the issue," says Guido Orthen, Mayor of Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler. In his speech, he calls for the whole of Germany to learn from the consequences of the flood. This is precisely the aim of FOCUS online Earth, the young climate brand of FOCUS online, which already reaches around 8 million people a month. A spokesperson for the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Environment sees a "gain for Rhineland-Palatinate" in the climate office of FOCUS online Earth. After its launch at the beginning of June, the ten-member editorial team has established itself in the Ahr Valley.
According to Florian Festl, the Ahr valley could become a model region, be it for new construction, new energy concepts, new mobility, new tourism or effective and nature-oriented disaster control.
