For more constructive journalism: The jury of the Constructive World Awards meets in Munich
by Eva Schuler
Two days filled with many exciting discussions around critical-constructive journalism. On 8 and 9 May, the jury of the Constructive World Awards met for the first time at our BurdaForward headquarters in Munich. The intention of the 15 jurors for the two days: the comprehensive discussion and final evaluation of the submitted media contributions.
Responsibility, courage and no hesitation!
The jury took a lot of time over the last two days to evaluate the nominated contributions from a total of almost 100 submissions. Both the constructive idea of the actors and the journalistic skills for the final constructive contribution were scrutinised very closely.
Is the contribution socially relevant? Does it have the potential to initiate change or contribute to solving a problem? How critically and at the same time constructively is the topic dealt with? These questions and many more were discussed by the jurors during the final selection of the nominated media contributions. The topics and media genres of the constructive pieces were as diverse as their origins: public media companies such as ARD, ZDF and Arte, as well as "Die Zeit", the online offering SZ.de, magazines such as "Brand Eins", "GEO" and FOCUS Magazin, as well as various podcast producers and radio stations sent in their contributions.
The jury also attached importance to selecting the projects that have the chance to become sustainably successful through the Constructive World Award. In particular, new, unusual approaches that contribute to solving relevant social problems are honoured.
