FOCUS online calls for applications for Constructive Award

by Johanna Schallehn
The Constructive World Award from FOCUS online is entering the next round: The award ceremony will take place in June 2024 and journalists can now apply for the prize together with the people or companies behind their media contribution.
In search of solutions
The still young media prize celebrated its premiere in summer 2023: six outstanding critical and constructive journalistic contributions were honored with around 200 guests from the world of media, business and politics. Now the BurdaForward brand FOCUS online is once again calling for entries. The special thing about this is that the awards are given to so-called tandems. This means that the Constructive World Award honors both the media professionals themselves and those whose commitment or project is at the center of the reporting.
The Munich media house accepts all formats for the application. Whether print, video, audio or cross-media - submissions will be accepted until February 9. Prerequisite for the application: there must be a critical and constructive examination of a project or topic with social impact and potential.
In these turbulent times, our society needs more than ever not only critical discourse, but also a constructive view of the path to our future. Journalists contribute to this by reporting on people who are working on solutions to the pressing problems of our time. They are the focus of the Constructive World Award because they are working on our common tomorrow.“
Constructive jury is in the starting blocks
While the application phase is underway, the jury is already lining up to assess the submitted Constructive works. A panel of more than ten experts, media professionals and entrepreneurs will evaluate the media contributions based on defined criteria. In addition to Philipp Welte, the members of the jury include Sven Gösmann (Editor-in-Chief of dpa), Ana-Cristina Grohnert (Chairwoman of the Diversity Charter), Dr. Felicitas von Peter (Founder of Active Philanthropy), Jano Costard (Challenge Officer SPRIND Federal Agency for Leap Innovations), Katharina Hinze (Co-Managing Director of Ashoka) and Steffi Czerny (Founder and Managing Director of DLD).

The editors-in-chief from Burda will also contribute their expertise to the jury. In addition to distribution via the Burda brands, the focus for them will be on networking. Florian Festl, Editor-in-Chief of FOCUS online, says: "The Constructive World Award is a platform for good ideas. It brings people together who have a deep interest in effective solutions. Our mission is to share their thoughts and deeds with a broad public on FOCUS online."
